BURKITT lymphoma: CAUSE

Cause in Africa the occurrence of Burkitt's lymphoma is the result of several successive infections in an individual which results in an immune system stimulation, and more specifically a variety of white blood cells: B lymphocytes.

Thus, an infection with the Epstein-Barr virus most often contracted from the mother, then a malaria, is likely to result in the formation of Burkitt lymphoma. This is Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Thus the tumor would then occur in genetic accidents resulting in a translocation i.e. chromosome exchange number 8 and number 14.

Of course, other infections may be the cause of the onset of Burkitt lymphoma in Africa as in Europe or the United States elsewhere. It is necessary to distinguish the African form and the so-called European form (sporadic).

Overall in Africa the appearance of Burkitt tumor is the result of several successive infections of the subject, which result in stimulation of its immune system, and more specifically B lymphocytes.

Patient surveillance is essential.
Indeed, it is considered to be cured provided that it does not relapse within one year after the beginning of treatment.
Otherwise, in case of relapse, it is again necessary to practice a new chemotherapy, and possibly a bone marrow transplant.

Treatment
For some time chemotherapy treatments have been using a large number of anti-cancer drugs, leading to the healing of Burkitt's lymphoma.
However this treatment requires five to six months of chemotherapy administered intravenously, but also of lumbar puncture, in order to prevent or cure the attacks of the nervous system.
Patients also receive radiation therapy, i.e. the use of X-rays as a treatment.
All treatments require hospitalization, sometimes ending in depressive symptomatology in patients subjected to repeated multiple hospitalizations.
